ABOUT GO WILD IN NEW YORK CITY

Go Wild in New York City is a production of the Urban Nature Media Workshop and Nurture New York’s Nature, Inc. These nonprofit foundations were established to create public awareness of the importance of nurturing New York’s nature for the health and well being of all its inhabitants, and to extend that mission to other cities around the world.

Nurture New York’s Nature was founded in 2002 by Theodore W. Kheel with proceeds from an exclusive, world-wide, royalty-free license granted by the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude for the Gates Project for Central Park. Additional support has been provided by Deutsche Bank, the law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, Verizon, and the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation. Nurture New York’s Nature sponsors research, books, lectures, conferences, publicity campaigns and events, and encourages alliances among groups and organizations dedicated to resolving the conflicts between nature and development that arise in the urban environment. The Urban Nature Media Workshop is a production house dedicated to furthering that mission. For more information, visit nnyn.org.

Go Wild in New York City, the book, was published by the National Geographic Society Children’s Book division. The Society is oneof the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations, founded in 1888 “for the increase and diffusion of geographic knowledge.” Fulfilling this mission, the Society educates and inspires millions every day through its magazines, books, television programs, videos, maps and atlases, research grants, the national Geographic Bee, teacher workshops, and innovative classroom materials. The Society is supported through membership dues, charitable gifts, and income from the sale of its education products. This support is vital to national Geographic’s mission to increase global understanding and promote conservation of our planet through exploration, research, and education. THE CREATIVE TEAM
Producer Jessica Marshall, Ph.D., mother of two and senior partner of Eye Candy Books, cooked up Go Wild in New York City with fellow mom Amy Zilliax in the firm belief that once you know how mind-bendingly cool urban nature is you’ll do everything in your power to take care of it—no matter how young you are.

Author Brad Matsen is the writer of the award-winning Incredible Ocean Adventure series for children and the upcoming Descent: The Heroic Discovery of the Abyss, among many others.

Designers Kate Thompson and Katherine Dillon have conspired to produce award-winning work in every medium. Previous children’s books include The Great Southwest Nature Factbook, O Is for Orca and Raptors, Fossils, Fins & Fangs.
